What Happens During a Smog Check

  • We verify the required test type for your vehicle.
  • We perform the visual inspection and emissions testing required for your vehicle.
  • If your vehicle passes, we provide your certificate and electronically submit the results to the DMV.


If your vehicle does not pass:

  1. We explain the reason for the failure
  2. Most 2000 and newer vehicles qualify for a free retest within 60 days, unless excluded

Before You Come In


To give your vehicle the best chance of a smooth test:

  • Drive it for about 15 minutes first when possible
  • Make sure the check engine light is off
  • Do not wait until the last day of registration if you can avoid it
  • If your vehicle has aftermarket parts, confirm they are California legal
