Hard-to-test vehiclesOlder vehicles, RVs, vans & heavy trucks
Older vehicles, RVs, vans, and other difficult-to-test vehicles are often turned away by other shops. We regularly inspect the vehicles many shops avoid — people drive from surrounding areas just to find a shop that will test their vehicle.

We inspect all vehicles, including:
- Cars, SUVs & pickups
- Minivans & vans
- Many diesel vehicles
- RVs
- 1999-and-older vehicles
- STAR-directed vehicles
If you have a specialty, older, modified vehicle, a van, or an RV, text us first so we can confirm the correct test procedure. If you are already coming in, you can bundle your smog check with an oil change to save a trip.
What happens during a smog check
- We verify the required test type for your vehicle
- We perform the visual inspection and emissions testing required
- If your vehicle passes, we provide your certificate and electronically submit results to the DMV
If your vehicle does not pass, we explain the reason for the failure. All 2000-and-newer vehicles qualify for a free retest within 60 days, except on select promotions that exclude it, and we can point you to an approved repair station.
Before you come in
- Drive your vehicle for about 15 minutes first when possible
- Make sure the check engine light is off
- Don't wait until the last day of registration if you can avoid it
- If your vehicle has aftermarket parts, confirm they're California legal
What to bring: your DMV renewal notice if you have it — but it isn't necessary.
No guesswork, no surprisesPre-inspection before your smog check
Before we run the official smog test, we take a quick look at your vehicle's onboard system for a reduced fee. Using an OBDII scanner, we check for:
- Active or pending trouble codes
- Emissions system readiness monitors
- Check engine light status
This step helps catch issues before you go through a full test just to fail. If something isn't ready or a fault is detected, we'll explain what it means and your next step.
Eligible vehiclesFree re-test within 60 days (2000 and newer)
If your vehicle fails the initial smog check, all 2000-and-newer vehicles receive one free re-test within 60 days, except on select promotions that exclude it.
