For most drivers, 30 minutes is a good amount of time to allow for a California Smog Check.
Some inspections at San Juan Auto Smog are completed considerably faster when there's no wait. But we wouldn't tell every customer that their vehicle will take 15 minutes because not every vehicle requires the same inspection.
Not quite.
For most 2000-and-newer vehicles, connecting to the onboard diagnostic system is an important part of the test. But California also requires applicable visual and functional inspections.
Older vehicles generally undergo a different process that includes actual tailpipe emissions testing.
So a 2022 Honda and a 1995 pickup aren't necessarily going to spend the same amount of time in the bay.
Most 2000-and-newer vehicles are walk-in at San Juan Auto Smog. For older vehicles, RVs, vans and heavy trucks, make an appointment so we can be ready for you.
And if you don't have time to wait, leave the vehicle with us and pick it up later.
Live or work close to the shop? Depending on staffing and how busy we are, we may also be able to give you a ride to or from the shop. Ask us when you arrive or call ahead.
